Peacock Blue

Gambar
This past gorgeous Thanksgiving holiday weekend was the last of my wedding commissions for the year....it could not have been a more perfect fall day...crisp, sunny and perfect for a fall wedding... I managed to snap a few quick photos with my iPhone before delivering the floral bouquets, requested in a jewel palette to co incide with midnight blue dresses of the attendants... The above is the corsage for the grandmother of the bride and groom, a simple calla lily, Odessa, a touch of hydrangea, some beautiful blue veronica and gossamer French organdy ribbons.... ...the perfect time of year for the use of hydrangea in bridal bouquets, plentiful and lush, this particular variety is called Pimpernel... Silverstone roses, kale, trichelieum and millet echo  the fall tones requested by the bride.  She also requested peacock feathers as an addition to the bouquets. As a rule, I rarely use any adornments such as crystals, feathers and jewels, preferring to just show off the flowers in all thei

Wed when June roses bloom....

Gambar
In just a few short months the wedding season will be in full bloom...May and June being favoured months to exchange vows. Flowers are plentiful then and our picturesque wineries are preferred venues for romantic, outdoor celebrations.Surrounded by lush vineyards and orchards, Nature looks after many of the finishing touches! Here are some of my favourite images for timeless and unforgettable weddings. Many brides are waiting to marry much later in life than I did, many waiting till careers are set and financially they have more options... So, to me a simple and exquisite, elegant gown such as this, would be a perfect choice. Tradition, with elements of Downton Abbey..... Sublime, don't you think? A soft and ethereal wedding palette. One of my favourite applications, the use of cloches in arrangements. This wedding appeared several years ago in Veranda magazine. I used this as inspiration for our wedding post, Shades of Fall. We used cloches to cover small glass pedestals elevating

Trade Show Time!

Gambar
Well, with the advent of January, comes the full onslaught of the trade show schedules, for almost any endeavor you might be involved in, with the retail industry. Whether it be home design, fashion, food and event planning, the trade shows begin running from now until mid summer. After being so tapped out from the holiday presentations so many retailers have experienced, you are thrust right back into finding those new and exciting items for your customers. Although I have been involved in both aspects, from the buying and selling end, it is an exciting and also daunting experience!  I still attend the shows, although have become more selective, since I am mainly interested in wedding related themes and products.  Several years ago, I participated in a local wedding show and while editing some photos today, came across a few I had recorded of our booth. The vintage theme always being present in our presentation.... I like to incorporate little details in my work, like this vintage

A Romantic Country Wedding

Gambar
Many of the beautiful lakefront wineries bordering Lake Ontario have become favourite venues for city brides. This particularily blustery day was witness to such an event, the romantic lakefront wedding of Allison and Phil  Allison was a very hands on bride, and was also very specific about what she envisioned for her special day, flowers as if hand picked from the garden, in a loose uncontrived way and an English garden romantic feel to the event. Her bouquet echoed these sentiments perfectly with astilbe, old fashioned full blown garden roses, that resembled peonies and lisianthus and euphorbia. A collection of vintage cut glass, and simple Mason jars to hold the arrangements catch the late afternoon sun. A vintage torchiere was arranged with a loose collection of the same flowers for the outdoor ceremony which was held in the middle of the vineyard. The bride with the help of her mother provided the hand crochet linens and tiny jars of homemade preserves which were gifted to ea

Wedding Inspiration

Gambar
Often, someone will ask me where I get the inspiration or idea for a wedding set up or other project which I have taken on. I honestly cannot answer that most times, because I draw it from everything around me. Mostly however, I am inspired by Nature, which I am fortunately surrounded by everyday, by having been given stewardship of this place that I call Acorn Lane. Colours and textures. ..which result in the creation of little mini scapes of what I see. A grooms boutonniere. ...or a delicate wristlet. Wedding bouquets waiting to be received. Ceremony flowers with the added branches from a fallen tree which will be placed on the white pillars.  They were arranged in vintage silver punch bowls. The element of rough with luxe is always a winning one! An all white colour scheme with silver. Pewter table linens and an all ruffles white chocolate cake from Criveller, the ultimate confections. Some florals were arranged in vintage silver champagne buckets with tall branches adde
